Yes!! So excited about this recipe! Dahi Puri’s are one of my all-time favourite foods! They are so easy to put together and taste fantastic. They’re a wonderful appetizer when friends come over or to take to someone else’s home. These little cups you see in the picture are called puri’s and they’re made from semolina flour. They’re a popular South Asian snack that are often filled with spiced water and eaten in one bite. Those are called “pani puri”, pani means water.
Personally, I prefer this version called “dahi puri” meaning yogurt puri’s! Each puri is filled with a mixture of spiced potatoes, onions and chickpeas called “chaat”. They’re each topped off with a dollop of yogurt, a sprinkle of sev (a chickpea based snack), a dash of hot sauce and cilantro. Is your mouth watering yet? If you’ve never had these before, you have to try them out!
Dietitian’s Pro Tips:
Be sure to eat these within a couple of hours. Filled puri’s will get soggy so this isn’t a recipe to use for leftovers.
Sev is a South Asian snack made from chickpea flour and salt. See the picture below for a better idea.
Puri’s are made from semolina flour and are used for all types of savoury snacking.
You can find all of these ingredients in the international aisle of your local grocery store. If you can’t seem to find them there, head over to your closest South Asian grocer and you’ll be sure to find them there!
